Congratulations on picking up your Starter Pack!
You’re now ready to get out there and start collecting some awesome Piakomon trading cards.
Here’s how it goes.
There are 5 challenges to be completed at 4 different location types:
- Libraries (Matamata, Morrinsville, and Te Aroha)
- Swim Zone Pools (Matamata, Morrinsvile, and Te Aroha)
- Museums/Galleries (Firth Tower, Morrinsville Gallery, and Te Aroha Museum)
- iSites/Visitor Centres (Matamata iSite, Morrinsville Visitor Centre, and Te Aroha Visitor Centre)
You can collect one card per challenge completed. That means, if you complete all 5 challenges at the library, you can get 5 cards.
Below you can find a summary of how the Collectathon works plus a full list of all the challenges you can complete at the different locations.
The Challenges
Libraries: Matamata Library, Morrinsville Library, and Te Aroha Library
These challenges can be completed at any or all of the libraries. Note that the first challenge is COMPULSORY to complete the Collectathon.
- Complete 15 hours of reading (you can track this personally or using Beanstack) COMPULSORY
- Participate in the Harry Potter Escape Room
- Write a review of a book (collect a book review slip from a librarian or write a review on Beanstack)
- Take a photograph of yourself at one of our StoryWalks.
- Name 4 services the library offers.

Swim Zone Pools: Swim Zone Matamata, Swim Zone Morrinsville, and Swim Zone Te Aroha
These challenges can be completed at any or all of the Swim Zone pools.
- Tell the staff why it’s dangerous to hold your breath under water for a long period of time
- Tell the staff how many Swim Zone facilities there are and which towns they are in
- Tell the staff one common rule all swimming facilities have
- Tell the staff what the Summer Swim Card is and how long it is valid for
- Swim a length of the pool or do your best trick

Museums/Galleries: Firth Tower
These challenges apply to Firth Tower ONLY.
- Dress up in Victorian/Edwardian style in the homestead for your own photo shoot and show a member of the Firth Tower (FT) team
- Watch a silent movie at Firth Tower and describe the film to a FT team member
- Make a paper plane in the Firth shed and show the FT team your creation
- Take the Mark Madill Mystery game challenge. Mark Madill has a story to tell, through the farm machinery. Take a look through the displays and find the real object from the clues on your sheet. You’ll find them in the entrance to the Madill Shed. Show your sheet to a FT team member
- Hang out the washing behind the homestead and take a photo to share with a FT team member

Museums/Galleries: Morrinsville Gallery
These challenges apply to Morrinsville Gallery ONLY.
- Complete an Art Hunt form available at the reception desk
- Investigate one of the artists we have in any of the exhibition rooms (The Arts House Trust, Whakaaturanga, Community Gallery) and tell us what you learned
- Tell us the artist responsible for the collage made of recyclable materials at the reception desk and describe your favourite part
- Colour our cow form at the Tamariki Desk area
- Invite friends/family who have never visited the Morrinsville Gallery and be their tour guide during their visit

Museums/Galleries: Te Aroha Museum
These challenges apply to Te Aroha Museum ONLY.
- Tell us what sounds you think our huge Merganthaler printing press made to produce the printed type for the Te Aroha News
- Create the front page for the local newspaper about a past disaster that negatively affected the town
- Write a review of what your experience might have been like bathing in our thermal bath a hundred years ago
- Try our tricky word searches based on the Museum’s displays
- Complete one of our multiple quizzes too which take you to all corners of the Museum

iSites/Visitor Centres: Matamata iSite
These challenges apply to Matamata iSite ONLY.
- Count how many trees are in the grove next door and tell a staff member
- Complete our code cracker
- Bring in a photo of your favourite place in Matamata
- Write a letter to a friend suggesting the places they should see when visiting Matamata and show it to us
- Tell us your favourite place to eat in Matamata and why

iSites/Visitor Centres: Morrinsville Visitor Centre
These challenges apply to Morrinsville Visitor Centre ONLY.
- Tell the staff how many cows in the “Herd of Cows?” Trail do not have horns
- Tell the staff the name of the cow in the “Herd of Cows?” that has milking cups on
- Tell the staff the height of Mabel the Mega Cow
- Tell the staff the names and location of the three dairy companies in and around the Matamata-Piako District
- Along the Morrinsville River Walk, there is a “stand” of native trees starting with the letter ‘T’. Tell the staff the name of the native tree

iSites/Visitor Centres: Te Aroha Visitor Centre
These challenges apply to Te Aroha Visitor Centre ONLY.
- Tell the staff the height of Mt Te Aroha
- Tell the staff the year in which Lemon and Te Aroha was first produced
- Take a walk to find Adrian Worsley’ sculptures in Whitaker Street. Tell the staff their names, which one of them is the water fountain, and where the water drains out
- Go for a walk in the Domain and look around. Can you see rubbish that people have left behind? We love our Domain and we don’t like rubbish! So bring us back 10 pieces of rubbish that you can find in the Domain (Rubber glove and a bag supplied).
- Think of a sentence using words which start with the first letter of the letters in our town’s name and tell the staff
