Matariki at the Library - June 2022

Our celebration of Matariki, the rise of the constellation of stars heralding winter and for many, the Maori New Year, is about to begin. Join us in honouring what is now a national holiday in Aotearoa as we share knowledge and tell tales of Matariki.

In June each library will feature a display showcasing the night sky of Matariki. Visit the library to write your hopes and aspirations for the coming year on a star, and add it to our constellation to be in to win a brand-new Wero Mai board game!

We will also be featuring a Matariki-themed Toddler Time at each library at the usual time of 11-11.30am:

Matamata: Friday 17 June

Te Aroha: Tuesday 21 June

Morrinsville: Wednesday 22 June

Our Matariki themed storywalks will also be returning in:

Morrinsville: along the soon to be opened new part of the river walk (Start at Studholme Street entrance, storywalk starts halfway down the track and finishes at the suspension bridge.)

Waharoa: in the rest area on SH27

We have a 2021-2023 Matariki calendar currently available at the Morrinsville library. Watch the instructional video by Rangi Matamua on how to use this Matariki calendar below and then come and visit us at the library to give it a go.
