Are you itching to get out some new library books, but want to avoid the queue,

why not order a Library Takeaway instead? 

Library Takeaways -   you phone us to tell us what you want, we get them off the shelves, issue them to your card and you collect from the door.

Library Takeaways orders can be made up for adults, teens, children and pre-schoolers and these orders can be mixed and matched according to your reading needs and preferences. 

Once you have made your selection or if you have more questions around this service, please phone your home library so we can get your Takeaway order underway.

We will be taking orders from Thursday 14 May and pick-ups by arrangement will start from Monday 18 May.

Please note that we are not currently running a courier service between libraries.  Therefore your holds may not reach you until this service resumes.

 

Frequently asked questions

How many books can I get?

Librarians will fill your order with up to 15 items and check them out to your library account. Parcels can be made up for adults, teens, children and pre-schoolers and these orders can be mixed and matched according to your reading needs. 

 

How do Library Takeaways work?

You can request your preferred Library Takeaway over the phone or you can send us an e-mail and we will call you back to confirm.

When we talk to you, we will ask you a few questions so that we can tailor the parcel to your needs.  Be thinking about what authors or subject areas you like and what you dislike in books.

We will also need to know whether the parcel is targeted at adults, teens, children, pre-schoolers or a mix of those.Parcel of books

When your parcel is ready, we will phone you to arrange a collection time at your chosen branch.

Please note, you MUST present your library card or ID at time of pick-up.

A staff member will be available at a safe distance, to sight your membership card or ID and provide any assistance if needed.

 

How do I pay for rental items?

If you are happy for us to place rental items in your order, you can pay for these via online banking.  Instructions on how to do this will be included in your order or you can find them here. Please note you will need to have paid for any rental items in your takeaway order before you can request a new order. 

 

Is this safe?

Yes, we have very strict procedures in place to ensure the safety of both our customers and our staff. When you visit the library you will need to provide contact details for contact tracing purposes, sanitise before entering and keep 2 metre distance from others.  We will need to keep numbers in the libraries to a minimum. 

A Library Takeaway service offers you the chance to get books in a more simple and safe way, as you don't need to enter the library to pick up your books. 

 

I am over 70, immuno-comprised or not able to leave my home but would love some books, can you help?

If you are over 70, immuno-comprised or can not arrange for someone to pick-up your Library Takeaway on your behalf, please contact us. We can arrange home delivery for the most vulnerable in our community.
