Interloan an item

If your library doesn't have the item you want, we may be able to borrow it from another nearby library - this is called interloaning.

Most books held by New Zealand libraries are available on interloan. If you've already checked our library catalogue and we don't have the book you want, try searching the New Zealand libraries catalogue to see if you can locate the book at another New Zealand library.

Note that it is mostly books that are available by interloan (for example, you can't interloan dvd's, most CDs, textbooks for current school/unversity/polytech courses, reference only items, magazines or newly published books).

Interloans incur a fee. Additional charges may apply if the item is only available from certain New Zealand and overseas libraries, or if you require the item urgently. The interloan fee must be paid when you collect the item. If you request an interloan but change your mind and do not collect it from the library, the fee will still be added to your library account.

We encourage you to make your request online. Alternatively, you can make an interloan request by filling in a form at the library.

Staff will process your request within 24 hours (Monday to Friday) and will contact you if there are any issues, or when the item is ready to be picked up. If items are available, they usually arrive within one or two weeks.
